Status: Vulpine of Vengeance, living for his revenge against Ralf of Volrath, PC played by Dag

Calis was born and grew up in the far north of Calabria. His parents, a proud fox couple, leading a solitary life in the wild forests north of the Rothos mountains, were atavists, and taught Calis many things about his origin as well as the innate powers of nature that were evident in him. He learned how to catch lizards and how to find mushrooms when he was hungry. He learned how to fight without weapons, how to dig dens, and his parents also showed him how he could summon the forces of nature within himself. Then, out of a sudden, his life changed completely. When the young fox was twelve years old, Calis, his parents, and the other forest dwellers were confronted with the advent of marauding bands of slavers, who were invading the woods and randomly kidnapping the natives in search of cheap labour. One of Calis's younger sisters was soon caught by the ruthless slavers, and the young vixen was used as a bait to lure Calis's desperate parents into a trap. It didn't take long until Calis and the rest of the disoriented, hungry and forlorn cubs were captured, too.

Calis and his family were brought to the south of Calabria, into a dark and gloomy castle owned by the Volrath, a powerful clan of wolves seeking for ways to extend their realms and influence. The foxes were brand-marked with the sign of their owners, and forced to help building weapons for the recent warfare plans conjured up by Ralf, the ruthless and cynical lord ruling the Volrath clan.

In captivity, however, Calis's parents soon started searching for ways to break their chains, to end their humiliating captivity, which was more than unbearable for these freedom-loving, wild and proud creatures. Calis's father's charismatic appearance made it possible for him to secretly establish contact with other atavists imprisoned in Volrath Castle and its surroundings. The fox managed to launch a riot, a desperate attempt to break free from their much more powerful masters. However, outnumbered and partially demoralized from slavery, the atavists were no match for the Volraths' powerful weapons. The riot was efficiently struck down in less than a day, and Calis's parents were brought to their execution. Only Calis was left alive - as a toy, a servant of the Volrath nobles who liked his feral appearance, and felt a decadent and sadistic joy by watching the fox having to endure his horrible fate.

For the fox, the pain of not only losing his parents, but also having to be a servant of his antagonist was incredibly painful, humiliating and caused deep wounds in Calis's psyche, wounds that would leave scars that wouldn't heal during the fox's lifetime. He realized that he wouldn't stand a chance against his oppressors, and considered suicide more than once. The only things that kept him alive were the desperate desire for revenge, and the rumour of one of his sisters having survived Ralf's brutal onslaught.

Many months of hopeless captivity passed, but a sudden fire (*) set to the library of Volrath Castle, and quickly spreading out over large parts of the building, eventually caused change. The young fox used the confusion caused by this event to get close to one of the armed lupine guards and managed to bite through the wolf´s throat before his enemy could even think of taking up a fight. The young fox, now unguarded, got hold of the wolf's sword, and sneaked his way past most of the other guards. With luck, sharp wits, and hatred giving him strength to fight his physically superior opponents, Calis succeeded in something many slaves before him had tried in vain: The young fox escaped from Volrath Castle.

Since that time, Calis is hunted by Ralf's tireless slavers. For Ralf, Calis always was a very special slave, not only a living symbol of his power over life and death and a warning for all those who might decide to stand up against their master, but also a creature that, for some reason, he liked to humiliate more than others. Now the wolf wants his property back, and besides, he's not a very good loser.

Appearance

Calis is a young male red fox of average size for his species. He is rather attractive, has a slender body, pretty fluffy fur and tail, of a rather bright red nuance. His belly is perfectly white, as is his tailtip and inside of his legs, while his paws are dark and velvety. Calis is a very vulpine creature, close to the appearance of what was probably his quadruped ancestors. (**) Calis has a branding on his right shoulder, the place where the slavers brand-marked him as Volrath property.

Mind

Calis, due to his long-term close contact with the nobles of Volrath, does not only possess the innate wit and cleverness of all foxes, but has also gathered a fair amount of knowledge and intellect during that time. Calis, though not always acting logically when it comes to avenging a wrong he or his relatives have faced, has fair skills in logical thinking.

(**) There is a romantic theory that the races of Calabria might have ancestry in the species we know in Real Life. Any real knowledge about this is of course lost since eons though. There are no written references, but some especially sensitive seers have had visions, perhaps racial memories, perhaps magically induced, perhaps mere illusions. Nobody knows, not even Triara.
