Status: Lord of Volrath, uncle ofReo, situated at
Volrath Castle, south of
Harrowgate, NPC
Noble, rich, owner and master of a castle and lord over a decent but not huge area
(lorddom) of Bisclavret land, south of Harrowgate along the river
Nith. Ralf is
hungry for more power, and being of a very intelligent disposition, he always has an
elaborate plan or two in the works for grabbing more land or power, often with the
result of other people coming to harm. He is totally unable to empathize with other
beings, but early in life he realized that pretending to be a friend could get him
far. Such "friendships" of his were instantly dismissed when they no longer appeared
to bring personal gain to Ralf. Due to this, he has lots of connections in the higher
strata of Bisclavret society. Those who know him better think differently, though. He
is feared by his servants, hated by his neighbors, and has many a lifelong sworn foe,
people he has ruined financially and trampled on.
Ralf is a wolf with lots of ambition, and if only he hadn't been so full of himself,
this intent and energy of his could have been channeled to more productive causes. He
doesn't have any real relatives, except for his nephew Reo, whom he considers as the
closest thing to his son as would be possible. Ralf lets Reo have access to
everything in his private little kingdom, except for his time and devotion. Thus
neglecting the youngster, he fails to see what develops right beneath his eyes. But
that is of course not important. Ralf has an empire to build.
There is a reason why Ralf has adopted Reo - the old wolf is incurably sterile,
someting that he found out by trial-and-no-result many years ago. Though Ralf might
rationalize this in other ways, somewhere in his mind dwells the thought that the
dynasty must continue. It is most fortunate for him that he will not be alive when
that day comes, for Reo is anything but the perfect heir...
Addendum:
Recently, many of Ralf's plans have been interfered with in a most unsatisfactory
way. His grand scheme for overtake and acquisition of the Harrowgate area was completely
nullified, and his favourite pet slave escaped. Twice! And he has been getting trouble
from what he thought were people already dealt with. All in all, this hasn't changed
his mood for the better. A good idea now, for example, would be to not get in Ralf's
way.
