Reď has never had a happy, harmonious family, nor has she had a safe and secure childhood. Originally an orphan, she was abandoned in the forest near a village in the western parts of Avoirdupos territory, left to die, or so she was later told. Her story continues with Reď being miraculously found by a handmaiden from the castle to which the village belonged and taken in as a servant girl. Thus she grew up, parentless but at least alive.

Though she was tolerated around the castle, Reď was never very popular. She was a fanciful and skittish character without the emotional stability that properly raised children enjoy. Without any real friend, Reď naturally found herself lonely and without anyone to talk to. She befriended a small local animal called a Myrr and ever since, it would follow her wherever she went.

Of course, things weren't all that bad, so it's perfectly natural that they would go worse. The de-facto ruler of the castle, Lady Vara who had quite a few favours to repay to the organization of the Twelve Paws, once ran out of messengers to dispatch in her neverending stream of political maneuvering. As it went, Reď was found to be the "perfect" replacement for reasons not clearly disclosed. This was indeed quite an advancement for Reď who normally wouldn't be trusted with more than keeping the castle clean and the animals fed.

As this miraculous opportunity arose, you would expect that Reď would rise to the occasion and instantly become a dashing master spy, with a self-assured urbane manner and a few well-placed cool remarks on the side. Not so. Reď completely and utterly messed up her assignment, lost all her money and had to come back shame-facedly, only to face the emissary of the Twelve Paws who was quite furious. In the end, Lady Vara had to dismiss Reď and banish her from the castle to at least save some face.

Reď today

Now, Reď is lost in a sea of troubles. Without any papers or proof of her heritage; without any roots, family or relatives; without any prospect in life, Reď is drifting towards a goal unknown if it even exists. Whatever she tries, it fails in some fatal and sometimes spectacular way. Reď can't fully trust anyone, let alone herself. She tries to find a path, but there are none to be found. And to put the crown on her queen-sized heap of depressions, she's lost her Myrr. Presumably it's searching for her, but it may take years until they meet again.

Reď as a person

Reď, the bittersweet doe, can be a quite demanding character to be around. She can be quite moody, jumping all over the emotional palette, leaving little emotionally coloured hoof prints all over the place. She's easily moved to enthusiasm, but equally easily frightened by whatever seems threatening. Reď has a deep-seated fear of wolves, but at the same time, she feels a mystical, perhaps fatal attraction to them. She doesn't know what's with these emotions, and she can't bear to think about them too deeply, or she becomes unhappy.

However, there are times when Reď forgets her humble beginnings and she begins let her dreams take wing. Luckily there's always someone there to immediately take her down to Calabria again, for who knows what could happen, should this deer achieve anything in life...
