The Equivalists

The Equivalists are a group devoted to finding the origin of all races. It is their conviction that all races are equal and equivalent. Only an evil veil of dark magic is supposedly splintering the aims and will of the races, preventing them from achieving their ultimate glorious destiny - to be one again.

This is not just a random superstition for the ignorant. Among their top ranks, the equivalists measure many nobles (albeit not the most influential of nobles), scholars (evicted from their normal posts due to various heresies) and a secretive but very powerful magician, from a college that no longer exists. Driven on by their charismatic leader Theptonor, they all strive very hard to achieve the final proof.

The latest of their endeavours has been a series of experiments to find a common race denominator betweem all races. A series of breeding experiments, amplified by raw magic has produced a host of chimeras, sadly misshapen creatures who summarily have to be sacrificed on the altar of ultimate zeal. The first experiments may have gone wrong, but there are some signs of improvement.

Meanwhile, the Equivalists has found another way of sustaining their ambitions. Through the Army of Purity, Theptonor has found a source willing to purchase these unfortunate abberations, though he doesn't know where they are taken after thar. He doesn't mind and doesn't care. Whatever fate awaits them is probably not worse than the otherwise necessary swift termination the failed ones receive.

Conditions on the secret breeding grounds of the Equivalist experiment site are by all normal standards quite appalling. Their magician has found out that fear and pain tend to increase the reception of channeled magic and increase the chances of success. Therefore, both breeders of many races and their luckless offspring are chained, tortured at strategic moments, and tormented by representative punishment. If one commits a mistake, someone else will pay for it, in the sight of the miscreant. A dark isolation cell and strong dream visions are also provided by the magician.

Needless to say, most of the Equivalists themselves are completely in the dark about the actual goings-on, and are only presented with the theories and results. After all, you can't have an omelette without cracking a few eggs, but how can you concentrate on your egg cracking if you have a lot of people concerned about chickens?

Affiliates

Twelve Paws is a secret organization that the Equivalists have worked with in the past. While they seem to share parts of their theoretical doctrine, the Paws do not seem to take too kindly to the notion of magical breeding experiments, and therefore this part has been kept a secret from them, or so the Equivalists think. Army of Purity is the organization that Theptonor has made his deals with to get rid of the unfortunate by-products of the breeding experiments. He doesn't know what they they stand for, and as long as there's a steady cash stream from them, he really can't be bothered with their public policies, now that the goal is so near... (more...)

Members

Theptonor is the leader and original visionary of the Equivalists. He has very good skills when it comes to dealing with people, duping them, buttering them up and deceiving them, as proves necessary. He will go to any length to see his vision fulfilled.

Enemies

Rhenyis and Thargyn are former breeders in the experiments. Together, they managed to escape from the breeding cells, and now they're travelling Calabria, alas apart, trying to establish enough support to put a stop to the horrible cruelties.
