Light's Shadow

"S'Allumer, once powerful with belief and the holy intent of bringing light into the world, has finally settled down in many parts of Calabria, and become an integral part of society. The former bringers of light have become symbols of an inert status quo, and thus lost their zeal to bring light to the souls still in the deep darkness outside their realm...."

Thus reads the remains of a letter, torn and burned but still partially readable, a correspondence between learned people probably not unknown to the higher ranks of S'Allumer, but now unidentifiable from this particular remnant from the time shortly before what is thought to have been the secret establishment of Light's Shadow.

Nothing can be verified, but there are rumors ahoof about a group of holy people, the Light Bearers of Light's Shadow whose goal is to bring the divine light to the places where S'Allumer cannot reach. They are said to be without fear for loss of life and limb, and supposedly they have no own goal in life but to serve the Cause. Their policies are not beyond any form of violence to vanquish the wicked, and to stand in their way, be it with old blood religions or black mangic, is frankly not very recommended. The Light Bearers are primarily selected from the more dissident members of the S'Allumer clergy, but even a few outside people have join the clandestine ranks of Light's Shadow.

Affiliations

Twelve Paws have some connections with the higher-ranked members of Light's Shadow, and help with political issues too delicate for the more straight-forward Light Bearers to handle with discretion. The Church of S'Allumer is of course aware of this extremist offshoot, but though the clergy is generally disapproving of the violence often displayed by Light's Shadow, they're quite powerless to do anything about it. Ultimately, they're striving for the same goal, so S'Allumer representatives often claim that Light's Shadow doesn't exist (and thereby provide a fortunate cover of denial). In return, it's often the case that S'Allumer preachers receive "divine guidance" and happen to be conveniently present to save some souls, just after some nasty event starring dark and horrid powers getting their collective tails kicked.

Members

Luxae Terna, a most impressive, tall lynx was once an accolyte of S'Allumer, who after a few nasty incidents with unnecessarily violent exorcising of evil spirits (together with the lives of several innocent bystanders) was saved from excommunication by clandestine connections high up in the church. Now, properly trained by Light's Shadow and uninhibited by the unnecessary self restrictions dictated by the S'Allumer, he's devoting his entire being to fighting darkness. He has gained his name by excelling in his duty.

Enemies

Tearing Hearts is the sworn enemy of Light's Shadow. The group was formed by former priests of a nearly forgotten religion, the dark and bloody hold of which was broken up by Light's Shadow some years ago. It is not beyond the Hearts to resort to black magic to inflict pain and damage to Light Bearers and associates whenever they can.
